Thank You For Your Kindness

Thank you for your kindness,
for I may seem in need.
I may not deserve it.
And you won't feed my greed.
Thank you for your kindness,
for I may seem weak.
When I'm helpless I'm stronger.
Indebted, I'm meek.
Of my best interests at heart,
your actions speak
While my arrogance whispers
it's something else you seek
Your kindness you think is selfless and free.
You are wrong.
Your kindness only seals your superiority to me.
Perhaps, you're unaware
what your kindness does entail.
Thank you for your kindness.
My freedom is not for sale.

A Dark Thought

Make room in my coffin
for the skeletons in my closet.
I wish to take them
to my grave with me.

It's pain that's rising in smoke
and hope drowning in booze.
How much longer
shall death be?

The Loser

On waking, his yawn

would cause sunset at dawn.

When sleeping, his snore

would wake up his whore.

His fucked-up existence was for the world to see

Oh boy what a loser was he

He slept in a pool

of his own drool.

his life's philosophy

was of it's own school.

He drank to the bone,

he smoked

He guffawed alone

at the jokes he poked.

Second came his name

in a single player game.

He stood fourth

in a race of three.

The ever deplorable loser

was none other but me.

Obituary

In times of need
Always on call
A survivor was she
Of many a fall
My love was she
And my trusted friend
Into a drainage sewer fell she
Met her watery end

A Prisoner's Song

It's dusk. You're standing in your terrace looking out at the horizon. The sun has long set. Now, just moments remain before you're enveloped by darkness. Staring into infinity in the direction of the last vestiges of light, you wonder. You ask yourself "What have I accomplished today?". You get an instant answer, but where does it fit in the larger scheme of things? What difference has it made to your life? And before you realise it, you know its too late. The shadows that had lengthened are now no more. All you are left with is your pityful plight and the darkness of the night..............

A prisoner of the ebb and flow
of time, of emotions high and low,
I see the fading light
I look on over dwindling hopes,
I gaze at the sorrow, so enchanting
as day ceases into night

I hear the winds of darkness blow,
the crickets chirp, the evil grow
Yet I deny its invading might
Braving, till tomorrow, I fight
'Cause hope will dawn, I know
I'm just a prisoner of this ebb and flow.

This isn't me. Its the work of my much lamer alter-ego who takes over at times. May be he's overstaying his lease. Need to kick him out, soon enough.

The Solitary Stork

So that it doesn't seem like this page is only about cricket I'm going to inflict some poetry on you poor souls........

On my way back from Pune I found i had too much time to kill. The journey, by train, is a day and half long and I didn't have a book for company like i usually do. Aside from a very excitable toddler bouncing about nearby, all i had for my amusement was the beauty of the Konkan rail route. (Of course, the word beauty acquires another meaning at Madgaon ; ) ) Among the countless little streams that comb the Konkan was one particularly noisy one, in the middle of which, on an outcrop of rock, stood a white bird, calm and still, ignoring the violence of the gushing stream almost arrogantly... This picture stuck and got me thinking........

The Solitary Stork

In the middle of a raging river
Like a solitary stork
Sunbathing away shivers
Upon a rock
I stand and see
In a race of no end
Peers rush past me
And there is no friend
In a hurry they seem
Do they know where they go??
"Time's runnin out!", they scream
In chorus with the flow
But I walk an untread path
And i see no fork
Yet at peace i feel inside
Like the solitary stork......

.................. Well, the white bird there was probably just an egret or something, but I'd prefer calling it a stork for convenience of poetry.... And hey, it turns out I'm allowed to do that. Poetic licence they call it. Think I'll b applying for one soon............ : )
